Unfortunate Conclusion

I read Wizard's First Rule over 15 years ago when I was a high school student. Since then, Terry Goodkind has created an expansive and fascinating world, where Richard and Kahlan are the primary protagonists.

This is the first review I have posted to Amazon (ever!) and as an Amazon Prime member, there have been hundreds of products/books/videos/devices that I could have made my first review.

As it stands, I could no longer stand on the sidelines when it comes to reviewing the disappointing (AKA abysmal) conclusion to the EPIC series of Richard and Kahlan.

My sister (who is 17 years older than me) was nearly as enchanted as I was with this series. After Richard initially ended the series by invoking the power of Orden, Terry Goodkind decided to extend the series for no reason.

The Omen Machine, Third Kingdom, and Severed Souls, all left something to be desired for those of us that were fans of books like Faith of the Fallen. Unfortunately, "Warheart" may be the WORST book yet. I hate to say that, and especially after reading "Confessor" which was a palatable conclusion to this series, he decided to create more books for unclear reasons.

This book is essentially a caricature of his writing, combining the worst elements in one volume. The overblown explanations, lack of a story, and constant switching between informing virgin readers of the series and satisfying avid fans make this novel an absolute mess.

I sadly spent money on this novel, and I am truly disgusted with myself. Out of the over 400 pages, there might be 20 worth reading, especially when compared with the previous works that Terry Goodkind has penned.

The best analogy I can come up with is if you happened to be a fan of the Original Star Wars trilogy, Terry Goodkind's latest works are like Jar Jar Binks wrote the conclusion. Enough Said.

Uneven but worthwhile

The early parts of the book were stunning. There were parts (first third of the book) that had me in tears, that were so intense and focused that I was completely immersed in what was happening. The were also parts that read like they were either ghost written or like the author took a long break from writing, and when he returned to the book he was not focused on what he was writing. The last third of the book was not what I expected, and I felt that it was a poor summation of a truly world class series of books. I do not recommend this book for any other than dedicated fans of the series. It does not standalone well, but for fans it is a necessary book to provide at least some closure or wrap up. I do that Mr. Terry Goodkind for the many days of enjoyment and complete immersion within the Richard and Kahlan storyline. The series itself is highly, strongly and enthusiastically recommended for any reader. I do have one request of the author. Though... if he could write just a tad 'grittier' or more realistic, it would have more impact. The books seemed to be a intentionally written as though the target audience was a teenager; like the dialogue and plot was 'cleaned up' before being published. I feel that this somewhat limited the storyline, and in retrospect, lessened the overall punch of the books, this one especially. This book is OK, but not what a dedicated reader would expect.

Best series there ever was or ever will be. I can't believe it all over. I kind of felt like part of Richard and Kahlan's world as I read through this series. I will never forget the first time I picked up The Wizard's First Rule. I had just started on my clean and sober journey after 2 long years of living a very wrong and scary life. I fell into this world of magic, Wizards, Confessors, and so on. The moment I opened that first book I was hooked. I can't just talk about this book because this book really angers me......... Its the last one!! It makes me so sad that I almost couldn't read it. I didn't want the story to end but I have to say if it had to end it ended in a good way. This book is a very good ending to a story that seemed to come alive for me! If you haven't read this series I highly recommend that you read every book in order and completely. I will now be reading the whole series over again. (I have read most of them at least twice)

Animal Instinct - The Best Rock Book Ever!

Animal Instinct is the best rock book I've ever read. It's filled with great photography courtesy of Ross Halfin, and the author, David Fricke of Rolling Stone Magazine, has done a superb writing job. Not only has he done exhaustive research, but he's injected the tragedy-ridden story of this band with healthy doses of good humor throughout.

I've read this book over and over again, and it's still entertaining. The chapter on "The Terror Twins" (who are, of course, Steve Clark and Phil Collen) is absolutely hilarious. And Mr. Fricke's way with words in describing the birth of Def Leppard, the recording of Pyromania, Rick Allen's accident, the band's struggles to record Hysteria both with and without Mutt Lange, and everything in between, leaves you feeling as if you've lived through it along with them.

There are other Def Leppard biographies, but there's not one to compare with Animal Instinct. If you're a Def Leppard fan and have not read this book, beg, borrow (but please don't steal my copy) or buy it for yourself. You must read it!

And if you're not a Def Leppard fan, beware - once you read this book, you will be!

Animal Instinct, the best book I've ever read!

Def Leppard fans, you must purchase this book! It is by far the greatest book on this planet. It tells the complete story of Def Leppard, from their early days in a Sheffield spoon factory up to their fourth album, Hysteria. Author David Fricke has done an incredible job writing this book. It is clearly written and very informative. The photos, courtesy of Ross Halfin, are amazing. Once you pick this book up, you will not want to put it down. Your Def Leppard collection is not complete without Animal Instinct!!!

Another fantastic story with a fresh outlook

This story takes Serena Wilcox and her friends in an entirely new direction. I have always loved fantasy and was thrilled to see the time travel theme. This book is meant for people who aren't afraid to let their imaginations take over. One thing I love about the Serena Wilcox books is that they spark so many ideas in my own mind. I also loved that she did not try to write hard science fiction; the science in the book won't make your head hurt. As always, the characters are fun and highly individual, and the book is very well written.
If you want a highly entertaining story that will take you out of the mundane world, then buy this book immediately. You will love it. I hope the next one is out soon, because I can never wait!

Let’s do Zazen now

I am looking for Zen book to practice it and I got curious when I saw this book title. This book explained to me what Zen is and I read a book about Zen before that I can’t understand what that book explained to me but this book is very understandable. I understand now the Zazen rituals and what the benefits are. I learned the four ways to sit. I know now what are the proper clothing, posture, and the cosmic mudra. The proper breathing is explained fine in this book. Zazen is great and I will practice this for sure.

Useful guide!

I am impressed! I am really interested in zazen meditation and I am thankful that my best friend found this book. This book helped me understand on what zen really is and it guides me on how I can fully understand the zazen rituals. It also guides me on how I can practice zazen properly. This book will explain to us the four traditional seating methods and the basic forms of meditation. The whole content of the book was well written and concise. I highly recommend this book for everyone. Excellent book!

As simple as Zen itself. If anyone is interested in the art of Zazen and looking for a good reminder on HOW to practice this is a good one.

When you do zazen, find a quiet place where you can sit without disturbances. It should be neither too dark nor too bright, warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The sitting place should be neat and clean.

If possible, a statue of Manjushri Bodhisattva should be enshrined in the room. If there is none available, any statue or painting of a Buddha or a Bodhisattva is fine. Also, when possible, place an offering of flowers on the altar and burn incense. Avoid sitting when you haven't had sufficient sleep or when you are physically exhausted. Before sitting, eat moderately and avoid alcohol. Wash your face and feet so that you feel refreshed.

I enjoyed this read and examination of the techniques the author comments on, it is a simple practical guide that's would allow the curious to read.

Th is anthology addresses his complex but simple thought and his simple but complex life.

In a real sense, Sheehan claims, there is no content to Heidegger's topic and legacy, only a method. But method must not be taken to mean a technique or procedure for philosophical thinking. Rather, the topic of Heidegger's thought and his pursuit of that topic, the "what" and the "how," are one and the same thing.

Heidegger writes, "Alles ist Weg," "Everything is way," and man's Being is to be on-the-way in essential movement. Heidegger, argues in our essence we humans are the topic and the point is not to be led there so much as to come to know what we already know and to become what we already are. This brilliant collection confirms this truism, and is an excellent introduction to the work of this seminal thinker.

Thomas Sheehan is professor emeritus of philosophy at Loyola University Chicago and professor of religious studies at Stanford University. He is the author of The First Coming: How the Kingdom of God Became Christianity, Karl Rahner: The Philosophical Foundations and co-editor and translator of Edmund Husserl’s, Psychological and Transcendental Phenomenology, and The Confrontation with Heidegger.
