About the Author
Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) is India's greatest modern poet and the most brilliant creative genius produced by the Indian Renaissance. As well as poetry, he wrote songs, stories and novels, plays, essays, memoirs and travelogues. He was both a restless innovator and a superb craftsman, and the Bengali language attained great beauty and power in his hands. As a poet, novelist, musician, and playwright, Tagore reshaped Bengali literature and music in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As author of Gitanjali and its 'profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse', he became Asia's first Nobel laureate by winning the 1913 Nobel Prize in Literature. Tagore denounced the British Raj and supported the Indian Independence Movement. His efforts endure in his vast canon and in the institution he founded, Visva-Bharati University. Two Tagore songs are the national anthems of Bangladesh and India: 'Amar Shonar Bangla' and 'Jana Gana Mana'. Ketaki Kushari Dyson's acclaimed edition of his poetry, I Won't Let You Go: Selected Poems (Bloodaxe Books, 1991; second enlarged edition, 2010), was a Poetry Book Society Recommended Translation.

A concise report of Tagore's life precedes what can be considered, altogether with Radice's, the most beautifully rendered translations of Tagore by someone else than himself. Don't let this book go neither... God: preserve the translator's life and competence as long as You did for the original author.

Affirms the Spiritual Heart

I love all of this poet's writing! I have since I was a teenager and I am in my seventies now. His poems are life and spirit affirming, just beautiful and truly uplifting. This is a great book to warm the heart and soul.

I like the title of the book, because I was looking for a diffrent translation of the bengali poem "Jete nahi debo".

I liked the translation, mainly because of the simplicity and very modern english, not old english. I like it because I felt that it's very close to the original poem, and it was easy for me to express, while I was reciting the poem.

Beautiful, well written; I couldn't put it down.

I could go on and on about what I loved while reading The Lipstick Gospel, but for the sake of time, I’ll get right down to it. Stephanie writes with such raw honesty, saying things that not many Christian writers would dare to say but I often wish they would. It was written with beautiful imagery, making me feel like I was experience her travels abroad right along with her. And most of all, her story has stuck with me. It serves as a great reminder to me that God continually covers me with His grace, kindness and mercy. Her testimony shows how much of an influence you can have on your friends; how the life you lead and the words you speak can powerfully affect how other’s view God. And her story speaks volumes to the kind of life you can have in Christ. Not a boring, vanilla-type life, but a fun, adventurous and exciting life- way more than you could ever imagine! I definitely recommend this book.

As an avid adventurer, the words on the pages of The Lipstick Gospel spoke to the deepest parts of my sojourning heart. Stephanie has a way of bringing you into her story with such hospitality; it's like she handed me a fresh cappuccino and comfy {stylish} walking shoes of my own, inviting me on the journey with her. We all want stories we can relate to and find respite in, the ability to shout "ME TOO!" as we read. This story, a true and vulnerable depiction of meeting God in the most unlikely of places, will enable you to do just that. Steph shares from the deepest places of longing, brokenness, healing, and redemption, and gently reminds us those are the very places God wants to meet each of us, too. I can't wait to gift this book to some dear friends who are on their own painful and beautiful pilgrimages.

A Story of Finding God and yourself, when you're looking for more.

I feel like Stephanie wrote my life and my college years down on paper better than I ever could. One of my favorite quotes is from the book Their Eyes Were Watching God: "There are two things everybody has to do for themselves: They got to go to God and they got to find out about living for themselves." Stephanie beautifully takes us on her journey of doing both. She describes how diverse God and His love can be and how its not all cookie cutter and breaks the barriers of every-day-traditional-religion. Her words made my heart palpitate for a journey and an adventure as well as reassuring me that my thoughts on Christianity, the way I love God and see Him, the way I live my life--is beautiful and wonderful and God designed. She encouraged me to do those two things: Find God for myself and figure out how to live for myself. This book was a sweet gift from a friend for Christmas. I will cherish it and pass it along to so many other women that I know. Thank you Stephanie for sharing your journey and tasking us all to live the Lipstick Gospel.

Several likely suitors propsose but Georgiana insists she loves a man she can never have. But that man is also pining for her. It is their romance that ensues.

This is an older Stephanie Laurens book and my first by this author. I usually like a little more spice (aka sex) than that which is presented in this book. That said, this is one wonderful romance. It is one of those delightful slow builds. We know these two are ideal for each other in spite of their problems.

Sweetly romantic tale

Georgiana Hartley returns to England after the death of her painter father. Arriving to find herself in an unsuitable situation, Goergiana escapes and finds herself asking the advice of her neighbour, Dominic Ridgely. The viscount is more than helpful, sending Georgiana to his sister and brother in law in London. Although no pauper, Georgiana intends to find a position as a governess or companion to support herself. Dominic�s sister Bella instantly perceives that Georgiana�s prospects would be much improved by Dominic�s suggestion of a season in London. Bella is reluctantly in London with husband Arthur due to Arthur�s business connections, not for the delights of the season. Dominic and Arthur, each of whom love Bella and want her happiness, are delighted to sponsor Georgiana, even if they have to hide from Georgiana herself that is what they are doing. But when Dominic arrives in London to visit his sister and truly �sees� Georgiana as a woman for the first time (having previously automatically provided a �too young� filter), he begins to fall for her. And thus begins his plan to seduce her carefully, within the bounds set by society so that no taint or doubt can cast by either Georgiana or the ton.
Georgiana is young and innocent, although more assured than most her age due to her exposure to the Italian aristocracy from a young age. She is confused at Dominic�s attentions turn to her, as he displays none of the fire and feeling usual amongst the Italians. She creates various reasons for Dominic�s objective interest in her, objections which Dominic has to overcome only to have another replace it.
Dominic and Georgaina are an appealing couple, and the romance that Laurens creates for them is a sweet, slow one. This is not a hot spicy tale, but rather a dreamily romantic one. Bella and Arthur are enjoyable secondary characters, and these four are very distinct people, while undoubtedly being a product of their time and social status. It�s not a book to burn it�s way into your best read list, but it is engaging, well told and one to raise a smile or two as you read.

About the Author

Jacinta M. Gau received her Ph.D. from Washington State University in 2008 and is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Central Florida, where she teaches, among other topics, doctoral-level quantitative methods and undergraduate research methods. Her research is primarily in policing, with an emphasis on police-community relations, race issues, and procedural justice and police legitimacy. Her published articles have appeared in multiple journals. She is co-author of the book Key Ideas in Criminology and Criminal Justice, published by SAGE, and co-editor of Race and Justice: An International Journal, also published by SAGE.
