Reference vs. Teaching Material

This book has wonderful charts and tables for quick referencing, however it is sorely lacking in demonstrations and worked out examples for students new to the subject. The chapters are painfully slow and complex when explaining the theory behind the spectrometric methods and effects on classes of molecules. In short, don't use this book to learn the material unless you already know it. It is a comprehensive reference, but not an effective textbook to teach from.

Excellent excercises...

It's an OK book if you are a novice in the Spectroscopy determination area, but a very nice book if it's going to be used as a reference book. It's very handy and explains the principles of the Spectroscopic and Spectrometric determinations in a very understandable way. Moreover, the excercises are challenging, making this book and excellent tool for those students interested in learning how to determine structures out of some spectra, although the spectra sometimes are so clean that they don't correspond with the one's that are taken by routine. The weak points of this book are the IR chapter and the lack of a UV chapter explaining various useful techniques for structural determination such as ORD and CD. The NMR section is just OK, but there are more details to be explained in the 2-D NMR NOESY, TOCSY and ROESY. I think the Mass Chapters are the best that any single book has offered to me so far to understand quite easily how powerful is the GCMS as a tool for the Structural Determination of Organic Compounds.

Great material, regular text...

The book is subdivided into only 3 of the 4 classical methods for spectrometric identification of compounds: IR, MS, and finally NMR (covering 1H, 13C and very little of 19F and 31P). UV is left out in this edition, so maybe getting a hold of the old edition's UV chapter (which is extremely well-written) might be desired. The MS and the IR chapters are also well-written and explained out. It is in the main technique (NMR) that the author fails to deliver the subject in a straightforward manner and lacks what I think is most important in this field: a large number of exercises and problems.

Tracy E. Ore is currently an Assistant professor of Sociology and the Director of the Applied Sociology Program at Saint Cloud State University. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Michigan. She serves as a consultant for multicultural education and curriculum to a variety of universities, organizations, and agencies and conducts workshops and trainings across the country related to issues of inequality. Her research areas include social inequality, race and ethnicity, and the development of effective teaching pedagogy.

Let's just move society backwards!?

OK - so, I didn't read the whole book.
In general, it seemed like the message delivered was more of a divider than a uniter. While many would say would say we should be striving for equality, this book seemed to provide a view of making it a point of our differences and delivered no message of hope. Beleive it or not, not everyone is a victim.

Maybe I missed something.

Pretty Bad

Was a required reading, hence I rented it. This book is pretty horrendous. The quality of the writings are terrible, not something I would consider Master's level reading, yet I had to read it in a Master's level program. Atrocious is also a word that comes to mind when remembering the readings I had to do. Would Not recommend to buy, perhaps you can 'borrow' a friends copy for your semester and save the dollars on the rental. This book is not even worth a rental. No new knowledge is gained from reading this book.

CHICANO ENGLISH SPEECH PROCESSING

I bought this book for the course on "Instrumentation" in the Instituto Tecnologico de Mexicali (Mexicali Institute of Technology) at 1991.
First: The book does not teach how to design. Instead, it presents a collection of proposed designs. Soon, it was obvious to us that the designs had never been built since they did not work as they were. This would have not been a problem if the professor had not discouraged any change on them.
Second: An standard English speaker can deem the phonetics a bit weird. For example, the speech processor consistently devoice the sound of "z" in words like "its" and "has" as it is done in Chicano English. Maybe this can be uncomfortable for a native speaker but for people struggle for acquiring English as a second language, was a terrible source of confusion.
Third: It would be good to see the next edition to check if it is better but it seems that it is impossible to find.

This book is about the usage of the Speech Proccessing Chips. It take a look at the functions of the Allophones as to it's connections and his intrefaces. In the first two chapters the book analizes the many designs of circuits as to its analogics and digitals. From its external circuit, interfaces and programation examines his flowchart and subroutines for control and software control. In the last chapter we take a look at the Test and Measurment Circuits, Instrumentation Aplication and control systems.

This book has very excellent information and with lots of applications for instrumentation projects. It contains its own design and it mentions alternative ways of design in case of looking for greater speed and reduccion of size in the circuits, with the implementation of different microcontrollers and its families. It is an excellent book for instrumentation projects.
I am a student of Electronic Engineering in Instituto Tecnologico de Mexicali.

This study guide breaks down each of the three subjects on the HESI exam, and each of the subtests that it includes so that the reader has an easy to understand outline of the entire test. It also includes a breakdown of each section of the exam and the amount of questions that will be asked, so that the reader will be well prepared for the physical exam as well as the content within.
The book gives simple, yet detailed explanations and information on each of the subjects. The guide gives test questions and examples throughout the text that are helpful in memorizing the information and applying it to the test.
The end of the book has a test section on each of the three main subjects: Math, English, and Science with answers so that the reader can test their knowledge and use it as a study tool.
